Fixing City Services & Infrastructure
No More Excuses—Just Results
New Orleans can’t function if basic city services don’t work.
Trash pickup, pothole repairs, streetlights, and drainage must be reliable—every day, in every neighborhood. Our city should be as clean every day as it is after a Mardi Gras parade—because we have the money and the resources to get it done. No more excuses—just action.
How we'll get it done:
Fix Our Streets & Infrastructure—Fast and Fair
- Launch a 90-Day Pothole Fix Guarantee Program to ensure all potholes are repaired within 90 days, prioritizing major road issues for safer, smoother streets across New Orleans.
- Assess and Strengthen the Street Repair Plan with strict contractor oversight to prevent delays and wasted funds.
- Fully staff the Department of Public Works to ensure faster, high-quality road repairs.
- Implement a ‘Dig Once’ Policy to coordinate SWB, DPW, the Corps of Engineers, and utility work, ending repeated street closures for the same repairs.
- Enhance the Public Works Dashboard, where residents can track service requests in real-time and include a scorecard display with response time information to hold the city accountable.
Prevent Flooding & Fix Sewerage & Water Board (SWB) Failures
- Modernize SWB billing systems to eliminate overcharges, inefficiencies, and meter-reading failures.
- Develop a long-term funding plan for drainage, water management, and climate resilience to prevent constant flooding.
- Create a plan to overhaul the stormwater management to upgrade flood-prone areas and improve water retention strategies.
- Ensure our city is prepared for climate change by monitoring flood-prone areas and upgrading drainage systems.
- Fund a water quality master plan that includes updating the water treatment plants.
Clean Up New Orleans—No More Filthy Streets
- Advocate to increase trash pickup frequency to twice a week and in the interim provide every household with two trash bins and a recycling bin.
- Expand bulk waste removal programs to tackle illegal dumping and abandoned tires.
- Implement a 48-Hour Response Guarantee for essential service complaints like overflowing garbage and neglected public spaces.
- Provide Sanitation Rangers in every council district to monitor and address daily waste issues.
- Implement a monthly Citywide Clean-Up Program, in partnership with neighborhood engagement, to keep New Orleans clean.
Ensure Safe, Equitable Transportation for All
In a city where 1 in 5 households lack access to a vehicle, transportation is more than just mobility—it’s a matter of equity, safety, and opportunity.
- Strengthening Public Transportation: Champion consistent investment in public transit systems to ensure they are reliable, affordable, and accessible for all residents.
- Prioritizing Road Safety: Make the safety of bicyclists, pedestrians, and drivers a central consideration in every infrastructure project.
- Securing More Funding: Partner with state and federal agencies to increase New Orleans’ share of dedicated funding for road repairs, safety improvements, and transportation infrastructure.
- Leading with Equity: Use an equity lens in transportation planning to ensure our most underserved communities—particularly those without access to private vehicles—are not left behind.
Modernize City Services & Make Government More Efficient
- Reduce city-imposed fines and fees, including parking fines and permit costs- expenses within the city’s control that directly impact residents’ financial well-being.
- Stop criminalizing culture. Allow neutral ground parking for parades, secondlines, and major events so residents can celebrate without unfair fines or towing etc. Work with cultural organizations to create designated event parking areas that balance accessibility, safety, and traffic flow.
- Upgrade 311 & the One-Stop Digital Platform so permits, inspections, and licenses are processed efficiently online.
- Launch a city satisfaction survey after each city inspection or service visit to gather feedback from residents and businesses, using the results to improve efficiency and accountability.
- Develop a public-private partnership to provide free, citywide WiFi, ensuring universal internet access, closing the digital divide, and driving economic and educational opportunities for all New Orleanians.
Make City Services Accessible
- Fully fund and implement a multilingual access plan for all municipal services so non-English speakers can easily access city programs.
- Create a citywide infographic system with icons and color coding to make city services easier to understand for everyone.
